Underwriting Analyst
Location: Douglas, Isle of Man
Closing date for applications: 6th September 2026
The opportunity:
Are you looking to build a career where analytical thinking, commercial awareness and data-driven decision-making come together?
As part of our International Group Protection Underwriting Team, you'll join a business committed to being a leading provider across both International and Domestic markets. We're looking for a curious, motivated and ambitious individual to join us as an Underwriting Analyst, supporting the growth and profitability of our Group Protection portfolio.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving problems, working with data and understanding risk. Whether you're starting your career or looking to develop existing analytical skills, you'll receive structured training, hands-on experience and ongoing support from experienced underwriting professionals.
Through our internal underwriting training programme and practical experience, you'll develop a strong understanding of underwriting principles, portfolio management and risk analysis, providing a solid foundation for a long-term career within underwriting and insurance.
What will you be doing?
- Underwriting: Working alongside experienced underwriters to assess small and standard Group Protection schemes, applying underwriting guidelines, evaluating risk and commercial viability, and supporting sound underwriting decisions.
- Portfolio Analysis: Taking increasing ownership of monthly loss ratio reporting and portfolio analysis, helping identify emerging trends, risk exposures and opportunities to improve portfolio performance and profitability.
- Data & Insight: Developing analytical reports, dashboards and management information to monitor Group Savings and Group Protection schemes, identifying unusual patterns, deteriorating experience and areas requiring further investigation.
- Governance & Controls: Maintaining accurate management information, supporting control processes and ensuring records remain robust, auditable and compliant with internal governance requirements.
- Professional Development: Building relationships with colleagues across the wider insurance business, completing our internal underwriting training programme and potentially receiving financial support towards relevant professional qualifications.
What are we looking for?
- Previous insurance experience would be advantageous but is not essential. We're looking for someone with the curiosity, enthusiasm and commitment to develop their underwriting and analytical capabilities.
- A genuine interest in understanding how economic, social and geopolitical factors can influence risk and business outcomes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and draw evidence-based conclusions.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, make sound judgements and communicate recommendations within established guidelines.
- A proactive and adaptable approach, with a willingness to take ownership, embrace change and continuously learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain analysis and decisions clearly to a range of stakeholders.
- Confidence working with data and a willingness to develop technical analytical skills. Experience with Excel, SQL, R, Python or similar tools would be advantageous.
